zone msn?

well, we have the status now (really cool) and we have sounds when people log out.

wouldn't it be grate, if the system didon't kick the users out after a certain amount of time, and users could set there status so that if you try to send a qn to them, you know if they were actually near the computer.

the only way that you can log out, is if you loged out yourself.
how about that?

I think if the site didn't logg us out automatically it would be confusing.
Some people just press alt+f4 without loggin out so they would be on the zone for ever untill they come back to it and this might be after days. Also i didn't understand what do you mean by zone msn. Actually it would be good if we could recieve quicknotes on our msn but i don't know how possible this is probaply not..

not very possible, and the only way I know of is using MSN alerts, which I don't believe is a free service to implement.

the automatic log out is a security issue as much as anything. if you were on here on a shared computer and you didn't log out then your account could be compromised by anyone else who then sat at that computer and logged on to the site.

Can't see the point in the rest. people can either be available, or not. all this setting status so you know if they're near a computer is just a waste of time - if people want to talk to you they'll be available, if they don't, they won't.

Agreed with post 4, Claire.

yeah, good idea and i can see where you're coming from, but yeah, agreed with clare, and these poor guys, some of this lot isn't easy to programme.

I say leave it as it is. Most people aren't like me and go to quicknotes, remain private and forget to log out. LOL

From an HTML standpoint, an available/not available setting is quite easy. It can be done like this:
<input type="checkbox" value="I am available." accesskey="B"></input>

Also, to warn people that they're about to be logged out, you could do something like this (I'm not perfect at JavaScript, so pardon if it's not perfect):

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function idleTime(){
var idleStart=new Date();
var idleEnd=new Date();
var idleTime=(idleEnd-idleStart);
return idleTime;
}

function playsound(){
if(idleTime>"00:01:30"){
document.write("<embed src="http://www.zonebbs.com/sounds/alertp.mp3"/>);
}
}
// -->
</script>

I've seen this posted a hundred times before about whether or not users should be allowed to stay logged in, and I still think that it sounds as bad as I heard it the first time.

Twkav, with all due respect, adding something to the site is a bit harder than the two-line HTML snip-its that you like to provide here. Most of this site runs on code that is behind-the scenes, in other words, you don't see it. Any option that is added, at minimum, needs to be added into the database along with the appropriate places on the website that use that information. Not saying that everything is hard to do, but it's not what you would think sometimes.

I never log out of the Zone the proper way, I normally just go to another website from here since it'll log me out of here automatically after a certain amount of time anyways.
